Where Passion Meets Education
Building a community of lifelong learners!
Building a community of lifelong learners!
This book is a collection of stories and creative strategies to help ALL children develop a sense of purpose and belonging within their school communities. Providing intentional social skills intervention to help young learners develop meaningful relationships are the building blocks to lifelong employability.
My mission is to help all young learners develop a sense of belonging and purpose through intentional social skills opportunities that will help them build meaningful relationships in school, at home, and in life.
Uncovering the hidden wisdom of children helps me become a better parent, teacher, and person. My recent public school teaching experience has included working in special education (K-5) with students with autism in a structured learning environment, working as a resource and inclusion teacher with students with learning disabilities, and as a life skills teacher educating students with severe and profound physical and cognitive learning needs.
Being a stay-at-home military spouse and homeschool parent to our five children for 13 years proved to be a powerful education for myself in learning how to effectively multi-task, individualize instruction, and focus on social and emotional learning.
In 2021, I earned my Principal Certification from Lamar University. I am also a TX certified Special Education Teacher (EC-12) and Generalist (EC-6). I have an MS in vocational rehabilitation counseling from the University of North Texas and a BS in public relations from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, NY.
I began my career working with the Texas Commission for the Blind and the Texas Rehabilitation Commission as a teacher and counselor but chose to pursue working with a younger demographic to better help prepare them for the world of work and focus on the importance of employability skills.
During the national shutdown of public schools during COVID-19, a parent of one of my students asked me if I had a YouTube channel. With the help of a handful of puppets, Social Skills with Simon was created to encourage students with diverse needs to continue their social skills development, role model positive behaviors, and help them build meaningful relationships through fun learning.
